Prof. Ir. Roel Pieper

Roel Pieper was born in Vlaardingen, the Netherlands, in 1956.
In 1980 he graduated with an MSc (Doctoraal), cum laude, in mathematics and computer science from Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands.
Pieper’s professional career began at Software AG in Germany, one of the first independent software companies in the world, where he served as Chief Technology Officer for almost 10 years.
With the worldwide rise of Unix Software systems, Pieper went on to serve as President and CEO of AT&T’s Unix Systems Laboratories from 1990 until 1993.
Subsequently he was appointed President and CEO of UB Networks, a subsidiary of Tandem Computers, from 1993 until 1995.
At the end of 1995 he was named as President and CEO of Tandem Computers and two years later Tandem Computers was merged with Compaq Computer Corporation.
He served as Executive Vice President of Royal Philips Electronics N.V., where he was also a Member of the Board of Directors from 1998 until 1999. Pieper left Philips after his revitalisation strategy for the company was rejected.
In 2001 he co-founded Favonius. Pieper is the chairman and founding partner of the partnership.
Pieper is an expert in the area of the interface between information/communication technology and business administration. He has been appointed as Professor of eCommerce and eBusiness at the University of Twente, a faculty chair of the Departments of Information Technology and Technology & Management, since 1999.
In the past, Pieper was mentioned as one of the Top 25 executives in Europe by Time Magazine.
Pieper appears regularly as keynote speaker at national and international conferences in the areas of software, networks, transportation, mobility and electronic commerce. In past years Pieper served on various boards in the USA as well as Europe, such as Veritas Software, General Magic, LBIcon, Lincoln National, General Instrument, Computer Associates, Lernout & Hauspie and several others.
